It looks like YouTube is about to get hella social.

While it seems to be wrapped up in lots of secret secrets, it looks as though Google have plans to turn YouTube into a brand new social network. After seeing the likes of Google Plus crash and burn into a crying pile of rubbish whilst Facebook watched and laughed from a distance, there's reports of new features and proposed changes to everyone's favourite video platform on the horizon.

You might remember when Google tried to force Plus on everybody a few years back, and when suddenly it was the only way to comment on YouTube and you basically needed an account just to Google things. Thankfully, they realised this was a terrible idea and dropped it like hot poo - but don't think Google have given up on the idea of creating a social media network that could compete with Facebook.

Thanks to a report from VentureBeat, it has been revealed that Google are working on an internal feature called 'Backstage' in the hopes of making YouTube far more sociable. With the ability to share photos, text posts, polls and links with audiences and other creators, YouTube is looking to make a fast step into the world of active social media to discourage its users from communication elsewhere - the key idea here seems to be keeping people on the site.

By the end of the year, Backstage will have had a limited launch to select users to see how to works, so if you start seeing status updates similar to Facebook from your subscriptions, don't be alarmed. In fact, there's a possibility that YouTubers will be able to release brand new videos available exclusively to subscribers that will not be found via search - you'll technically be a VIP to their channel! All we hope for is a less toxic comment section and the ability to spam our faves with memes, please?
