For the past four years, YouTube creator Sam Collins has uploaded frequent videos and comedy skits about his life as a teenage boy. However, it came as a complete shock to his subscribers when, on the 17th of July, he posted a personal video that announced that he was in fact a female-to-male transgendered individual and he was "done with hiding" from his fans.
In a 10-minute vlog, Sam revealed to his subscribers that "up until the age of 16, [he] lived as a female" and that this is"something [he's] been wanting to say to you guys for a very long time". He recalls that from the ages of 12 to 15, he was "very, very depressed and very negative" in addition to feeling like he was "trapped in [his] body", and so he underwent the transition from female to male.
Sam's video talks more about about his history as a female, the journey he took to become a male and also how he felt about "hiding" from his subscribers. But even though he shared his concerns that it was "going to be hard for some people to understand", Sam has since taken to Twitter to thank everybody for their "overwhelming" support - "I didn't expect this".
The video, which is currently on over 12k views and the second most popular video on his YouTube channel, has sparked a lively and supportive audience of Sam's to come forward and flood his timeline with respect and dedication to his announcement; "I hope you all stick with me, I have a lot for you, this is a whole new chapter in my life... even if u just found out about me ilu, this is a whole new chapter & i'm v happy to share it with u all. thanks for all of this support".
