The "immersive live event" has been hit with criticism.

Zoella has responded to backlash over her Hello World appearances - or lack thereof.

This weekend, Hello World brought together a number of high-profile British YouTubers, including Alfie Deyes, Joe Sugg, Louise Pentland and Zoe for an "immersive experience" at Birmingham's Genting Arena. While many fans were happy with their experience, many have vocally criticised the event and the creators involved for not interacting with fans enough.

On Sunday evening (29th October), Zoe took to Twitter to clear up rumours that she refused to meet with fans. Denying that she had any scheduled meet and greets during the weekend, Zoe said that she "took hundreds of photos with fans on both days," even when "on the brink of panic."

"Sometimes it's important to push yourself & not just say no to things because you have anxiety," she added.

Zoella also responded to criticism that she wasn't on the main stage.

Saying that she doesn't feel comfortable "being on stage in front of thousands of people," Zoella confirmed that she had never been scheduled to appear for her own segment on stage.

On social media,  people complained that the young event attendees were left disappointed by the "lack of interaction" from fan favourites

One person reported that kids were "walking round with very sad faces," while another accused the event of "exploiting" young people and their parents.

Hello World have not yet publicly responded to any criticism of the weekend.

However, their website does state that Hello World was "not a meet and greet."
