James was no amused in the slightest

James Charles has sent a furious response after influencer Jovan posted a fake screenshot of James saying the N word.

Jovan posted the screenshot which appeared to show James using the slur in an Instagram direct message, but James was quick to point out that the image was fake, saying:

"this is absolutely not funny, delete this immediately or my lawyer will be in contact".

Some users mocked James' legal threat but libel is a genuine offence and painting someone as a full-on racist could very much be argued to be damaging to their character by a court.

Jovan replied in a now-deleted tweet saying: "Let's do it baby I know the law".

James sent a series of messages about the issue. He said:

"It’s scary to me that there are actual people on twitter who crave attention so badly that they make fake screenshots to try and ruin other’s careers and lives... it’s not funny".

He also said:

"Getting messages death threats and emails questioning one’s character over a fake screenshot is not a joke."

Despite his initial warning, James does not seem keen to get tangled up in legal drama.

At the time of writing, both Jovan's Instagram and Twitter accounts were suspended but are now back. Once he was back on Twitter, Jovan wasted no time coming after James (and other YouTubers) directly:

Jovan and his fans are generally insisting that it was a joke and that James have overreacted - something James and his fans are rejecting.

There have also been tons of memes - because of course there have.

Jovan has made headlines before for being a man who famously does nothing for a living and who lives off donations from fans. He has a large following online and is known for his memes and sense of humour.

James, meanwhile, recently became the most subscribed beauty YouTuber in the world, eclipsing friends and colleague like Jeffree Star and Michelle Phan.
