James Charles previously lost 3 million subscribers after Tati Westbrook's 'Bye Sister' video.
It’s been a whole week now since James Charles lost millions of subscribers following allegations made by his previous mentor Tati Westbrook, but it looks like he’s starting to recover from the damage.
After posting a 41-minute response video on Saturday (18th May), James' subscriber count has risen by 1.25 million, after he previously lost three million subscribers as a result of Tati’s original ‘Bye Sister’ video. In the video, she accused him of supporting a competitor to her brand Halo Beauty while at Coachella, as well as calling him out for his "manipulation" behaviour and constant sexual comments around straight men.
In his response video, James gave a detailed response to the drama, going through a point-by-point comeback to every point Tati made and responding to the allegations against him. He also posted screenshots from message sent to him by Jeffree Star and called out Zara Larsson for claiming James had slid into her boyfriend’s DMs in a now-deleted viral tweet.
He’s not the only one whose subscriber count has changed since the new video upload. Since James’ response video was uploaded over the weekend, Tati has lost over 304k subscribers, whereas Jeffree has lost a far more modest 40.4k.
It looks like all the drama may soon be over though - in response to James’ latest video, both Tati and Jeffree have claimed they aren’t going to post any more about the drama.
Posting to social media, Tati claimed that she will “not be making any further public comments” about the fall out and hopes that “no one else will make anymore hurtful statements on my behalf”.
She added: “Also I do not regret raising my concerns, I completely regret the way I went about saying them, I could have and should have found a better way. Even in this moment, I still have so many things I’d like to clear up, however the continued call for ‘receipts’ is nothing more than a call for never-ending bloodshed. As such, I’m setting aside my overwhelming need to be understood and will continue my conversations with everyone in private.”
Jeffree Star has also responded to James’ latest video by posting a 13-minute clip where he apologising to both James and the community before calling a truce on the whole situation.
In the video, called ‘Never Doing This Again’, he says: “Today I know what people want. They want me to sit here and degrade James. They want me to open up my phone and expose it all. I’m done doing that. I’m willing to bite the bullet and let anyone think what they want. But today I will not be posting voice memos I will not be posting text messages. I will not be exposing anything more. This has to stop.”
He continued: ‘I’m embarrassed by my own actions. I could have handled things differently, what I should have done is vented all my feelings to James. I know Tati got to do that. She had private conversations. I didn’t do that. I should have been mature enough to say: ‘Hey, I love and care about you. I’ve heard X, Y, and Z about you. I’ve seen some things I didn’t like. Here’s my feelings.’ But guess what, I didn’t. And that’s my first mistake.”
