Why are they arguing? What happened at Coachella? What do vitamins have to do with any of this? Here's everything you need to know about the drama rocking the YouTube beauty community.

The falling out between James Charles and Tati Westbrook has been all anyone in the YouTube community can talk about since last Friday when Tati uploaded a video titled 'Bye Sister...' aimed at James.

Since uploading the video about James on May 10th, Tati's bombshells have shook the beauty community in more ways than one. James has lost over 3 million subs, Tati has gained over 4 million subs... basically, it's all kicking off.

But if you - like us, to be quite honest - are wondering how this all even started, what sleep vitamins have to do with anything and what the hell happened at Coachella 2019, here's a complete run down of everything that has happened between James and Tati so far.

From the start of their friendship, right down to the most recent drama in the scandal - here's everything you need to know:

James and Tati first met in 2016

James first met Tati when he was 17. He originally contacted Tati through DMs and she swiftly took him under her wing. Tati would frequently mention James in her videos, promoted his work and did several collaborations together on both of their channels.

She also invited and flew James out to be at her wedding to do her make up.

James Charles ebola scandal

About a month after Tati's wedding, in February 2017, James ended up in a huge scandal surrounding a tweet he posted about getting ebola while travelling to "Africa." Following the backlash, Tati stuck by him and began helping him secure deals, work with brands and build his own brand. Tati essentially helped to make James who he is today.

What happened at Coachella with James and Gage?

While this doesn't really have anything to do with Tati directly, she also brings up the recent issue with Gage Gomez and says that she warned James about his relationships with straight guys. While at Coachella, James was spotted with Gage. After responding to a fan who asked if they were together, James accused Gage of being a con artist and playing him for months.

Gage responded, and then James fired back again posting a lengthy statement to Twitter.

The Sugar Bear Hair vitamin drama

Ok, so this is how the whole Tati drama started. James had been helping promote Tati's vitamin brand Halo Beauty. While at Coachella's second weekend in April, James uploaded a sponsored post to Instagram promoting Sugar Bear Hair sleep vitamins - a direct competitor to Tati's brand.

Several explanations as to why James posted the ad have done the rounds - including his own apology statement. Following receipts posted by Nikita Dragun after Tati's 'Bye Sister...' video, the reason for James posting the Sugar Bear Hair ad was so that he could get free passes into the Artist area at Coachella because he was "being attacked" in the VIP area.

Tati uploads a tearful Instagram story

Following the vitamin drama, Tati uploaded a video to Instagram. While she didn't mention James by name, the timing of the video and what she said in it was very telling. "Everybody says what they need to say and uses who they need to use, and I have had about enough," she said in the story. "It's not right."

James issues an apology to Tati

"I want to publicly apologize to my close friend Tati," he began. "She has been like a mother to me since my first days in this industry and has given me more love, support, resources, and advice than I could ever ask for. This weekend I did an Instagram Story for Sleep Vitamins that I've been taking, because the brand helped me with security when the crowd around me at Coachella became unsafe."

"I did not accept any money for the post. As most of you know, Tati has a vitamin brand which I take on a daily basis, but I did not think about the competition, which was a major oversight. I've supported Tati both online and off like she has done for me and am devastated that I hurt someone that I truly love and have endless respect for."

Jeffree Star appears to support Tati on Twitter

Following James' SBH ad post and Tati's Instagram story, Jeffree subtweeted some stuff which many interpreted to be about James. In case you don't know, Jeffree and Tati are very good friends.

A few days later, Shane Dawson tweeted his appreciation for Tati. It wasn't shading James at all but the timing was... interesting.

Gabriel Zamora's comments

Gabriel first called out Tati in a Snapchat video, saying: "In the grand scheme of it all, you have to really like check in with yourself and really think about, ‘Is this really, like, a thing?’ Because if not you’re going to be sitting on the internet crying over vitamins when things are really going on around the world."

He then followed up with more comments in his Makeup and Opinions video on YouTube saying, "I’m just confused as to what happened. I’m like, wait what was done? What did this person do? What did James do?”

"She made a deal out of this whole vitamin situation. She went on to cry and heavily imply... she doesn’t seem to think that ‘Hey guys, it’s not about James. Hey guys, me and James are gonna handle this privately.”

Tati’s 'Bye Sister' video

And here is where we find ourselves. On Friday May 10th, Tati tweeted "If you're scared to speak up... it's usually a sign that you should," before she dropped the video that would see James' entire subscriber count tumble.

In the video, titled 'Bye Sister...', Tati recounts how she helped James through his scandals but ultimately felt as though he was using her - particularly after the Sugar Bear Hair scandal.

She explained that she wasn't going to make the video but since Gabriel Zamora had something to say about her specifically, and mentioned that she was using James, she decided to go ahead with it.

In the video, she says: “There is so much going on with James Charles right now that I don’t agree with. Fame, power and a fat bank account will change almost anyone and if you don’t have people that will tell you to your face that you’re doing the wrong things, you will change. I tried to be that person for you James, I really tried. I don’t think there’s any getting through to you and I don’t want to be friends with you, I don’t want to be associated with you and I need to say that very publicly so that this chapter can just be closed.”

She also calls James out for his behaviour and sexual comments about straight men.

James Charles 'tati' apology video

A few hours after Tati's video was uploaded, James uploaded an apology video from Australia, where he's currently on tour.

In the 8 minute video, James apologises to Tati and says he's disappointed that he's let down those who look up to him as a role model and those who he looks up to. He also confirms that Tati spoke with him honestly about how that looked from the outside and warned him that it could get him in trouble one day.

Sam Cooke, the waiter from Seattle mentioned in Tati's video responds

After being mentioned in Tati's video, Sam responded to the situation to explain what happened. He uploaded a video complete with screenshots of messages between him and James, which he confirms that he instigated.

He says that he went to James' hotel room and spent an hour making out with him before he left. He said that James kept asking him to stay but he refused. Later, he told James that he was "pretty sure (he was) straight".

At the time James was offering to fly Sam out to see him. Sam says he told James he was straight and that if he went, James needed to understand that it would only be in a platonic capacity. James then declined his offer and cancelled the trip.

Sam said James then became sad and started posting about him on social media.
