Jeffree Star Is Being DRAGGED For 'Blatantly Racist' Braids
3 October 2018, 11:22
The DRAMA is REAL.
Remember when one of the most controversial make-up artists/YouTubers, Jeffree Star, made a 15-minute long video apologising for being racist? (In case you didn't know, several videos and old tweets from Jeffree containing racist slurs and insults were discovered a few years ago. He was called out over it and later apologised.)
Weeeeell, people are now commenting that it may have been a hollow apology, as on Friday 28th, he posted a photo on social media wearing cornrows in his hair sparking cultural appropriation backlash.
Obviously, people were not here for it.
Using others cultures (in this case a hair style) as a makeup look and image that will be used to promote his brand and make sales is cultural appropriation if i have ever seen it. It would be different if it was for appreciation and raising a voice to a community 1/2— Emma (@FluffyEmmaPie) September 28, 2018
Jeffree did respond, but he essentially accused people of making a big deal out of nothing, and then posted more photos with the hairstyle. He doesn't care.
Hahaha preach!!! young kids trying to be mad at something always— Jeffree Star (@JeffreeStar) September 28, 2018
That appeared to be the end of that saga... until later that evening.
MUA Jackie Aina shared her 2 cents on the issue. She was prepared to drag, and drag she did. She called Jeffree out for his 'blatant disrespect' for people of colour, and lists his offences like using the n-word and appropriating cultures, making black women feel ugly in their own skin. She said no one should feel protected enough to act that way, calling on fans to stop making exceptions for problematic people because they 'like the way they blend their eyeshadow.'
She also urged people to not try and make her forgive Jeffree, as she felt that he would never accept her, so that she shouldn't be forced into forgiving him.
Jeffree has yet to respond to her comments.
