TW: self-harm, suicide

Jeffree Star has opened up about his history with self-harm in an interview with Shane Dawson.

Following the success of his mini-series looking into the disaster that was TanaCon, Shane decided to do a five-part look into the life of Jeffree Star, in an attempt to show a different side to often controversial YouTuber and makeup entrepreneur.

In the final episode of the the series, Jeffree opens up about his father who committed suicide when Jeffree was just 5-years-old. Later in his life as a teenager, Jeffree reveals that he didn't know how to process his feelings and emotions about his dad's death and that's when he started to self-harm.

"I think about when I tattooed my whole body, a lot of it was hiding emotions and pain. I spent all of high school in 90 degree weather with full sweaters and pants and no one ever ask me why, and the whole entire time I was cutting my entire body."

He continues: "I decided later on in life that when I got over that and overcome it, I wanted to tattoo my whole body so people couldn't see that."

Jeffree then shows Shane the scars, who is visibly upset by the revelation. "I don't ever talk about it. I just hide it", responds Jeffree, who says he hasn't cut himself in over 10 years.

Elsewhere in the interview, Jeffree talks about why he gets into so many public feuds with his former friends.

"If you already don't like me, you're going to get the portrayed version of 'I go through friends quickly'. I don't think people really get to see what happens behind the scenes, so I always look like the loud mouth and the bad guy, because I speak up and I clap back and I say things.

"It's not like I need to have the last word, I just don't like it when there's misinformation. Like with my ex-friends, people still don't really know what went on. Why do I feel like they need to know? Because there's so many versions of things that never happened out there. Half of the people still think I'm the bad guy, when I only loved and cared about all these people, boosted them up, and gave them all my connections, but I'm still the F**king bad guy."
