Joe Sugg is facing heat from fans of Strictly Come Dancing, after the YouTuber was announced as a contestant on this year's season.
Yesterday, the BBC confirmed that 27-year-old Joe was joining the 2018 line up. But while Joe's fans are ecstatic with their fave making it onto primetime telly, fans of the running show were less enthused.
Despite having over eight million subscribers and a successful, six-year career on YouTube, fans of Strictly reacted to the news with a chorus of "WHO?," with some describing Joe as a "nobody"
So a nobody??— GaryC (@blues525) August 14, 2018
Others were confused over whether or not YouTubers really count as celebrities (spoiler alert: they do)
I try so hard to keep an open mind with who's going on Strictly this year but... to me a Youtuber isn't a celebrity, it takes no skill, it's ridiculous 😞— Kerry 💖 (@AlouderKiwi91) August 14, 2018
Remember the days where there actually was celebrities in Strictly, now "online creators" are taking over everything. https://t.co/fcR2C9TtvY— Beccy Sadler (@BeccySadler21) August 14, 2018
Luckily, Joe's fellow creators, have filled the internet with enough positivity to combat the haters
This is fantastic Joe! I'm so excited to see you smash it and win! xxx— Louise (@LouisePentland) August 14, 2018
