We the Unicorns

By Hollie-Anne Brooks

Introducing the first column from the London Small YouTubers Group!

You might have noticed we've been working with the team behind London Small YouTubers in recent times. Not least, when they helped us with our Rising Star category in the We The Unicorns YouTube Awards 2016; even hopping on camera to present the award.

Now, in a weekly series, the team will be producing a column discussing all things YouTube, and introducing you to some brand new faces along the way. We're really excited to work with such a hard working, talented and inspiring team.

Enjoy the first of many brilliant columns to come.

If you haven't yet heard of London Small YouTubers, hold onto your socks because we're going to try and knock them off.

Affectionately known by many as LSY, we’re a local bunch of new media creators, with our hub being London and our passion being YouTube. Call us a community, a fresh-faced start up or a volunteer-squad, to be honest we’re all three and more besides. We’re run by a friendly committee of 9 YouTubers who do everything from bringing creator events and opportunities to life to keeping our social media know-how on top form.

In just over a year we went from Eleana and a big idea to having an active creator group of almost 600 London-connected-members who all love to create, collaborate and connect online and offline.

What exactly do we do?

We regularly host meet-ups, free training sessions and workshops, socials and sponsored events, and our online Facebook group is always there for our members to ask their burning questions. Last year we hosted a free workshop evening with certified YouTube marketing experts Derral Eves and David Walsh, moderated panels at Comic Con London, and one of our members won an all-expenses paid trip to VidCon Anaheim through one of our sponsored competitions.

We are always eager to shine a light on some much-deserving smaller creators, so take a look below at our current video faves.

Akos Ratjamar

Having moved from Hungary to London, Akos uses his YouTube channel to share his adventures traveling and getting used to London-living. He always has beautiful footage in his videos, convincing us that you can find beauty everywhere you go. His smart and funny editing style mixed with his catchy and unique music choices always has us clicking play when he uploads.

Shosh and Mer

Shosh and Mer are a British/American lesbian couple living in the UK. This channel is a wonderful haven of chatty vlogs with the main focus on their relationship and LGBTQ+ topics. Their sweet and engaging personalities shine through the screen and make you want to click their next suggested video asap.

The Wilky Ways

Who doesn’t love a family vlogging channel?! The Wilky Ways documents the life of the Wilkinson family, originally from the England but currently living life in Brussels. Ethan, Joanna and their adorable sons Ethan and Noah are delightfully sweet entertainment for when you want to tuck yourself in for some wholesome YouTube viewing.
