Shane won YouTuber of the Year but was so nervous during his speech that Kathy Griffin took over and it was EVERYTHING

Shane Dawson took home the award for YouTuber Of The Year at the 2019 Shorty Awards - but it's what happened during his speech that really has people talking.

Shane was given the award in recognition of the amazing work he has done this past year across his wildly successful documentary series, and it's safe to say he wasn't a controversial choice of winner, despite beating out big names like PewDiePie.

Shane made his way to the stage, along with his friend and collaborator Andrew Siwicki - and that's when the magic happened.

A visibly nervous Shane said a few words of thanks before concluding: "“Thank you. Okay, that’s it.”

But comedian Kathy Griffin, who was presenting the award, wasn't going to stand for that. She grabbed Shane and stopped him from leaving the stage. She then delivered a heartfelt, off-the-cuff speech, in which she praised Shane for all he has accomplished - all while jokingly pretending to be Shane himself.

“I want to thank you guys for helping me grow, because I did it myself.” She quipped.

"I was honest year after year after year and you stood by me. You went through my trials and tribulations... I have graduated into a television producer, a film producer…I did a series about Jeffree Star."

Shane was in tears by the end, and gave Kathy a massive, grateful hug.

Later, Shane lavished praise on the comedian on Twitter, saying:

"kathy griffin doing a speech for me is something i wish i could tell my 12yr old self about. kathy u will always be my hero. ur the reason i got into wanting to create funny stuff with a heart. ur comedy kept me going through so many hard times as a kid. love u so much :,)❤️"

Shane wasn't the only winner at the Shorty Awards, of course
